Government Chief Whip, Tom Kitt T.D., has announced the Government's Legislative Programme for the Dáil session which commences tomorrow, 25th April.
Minister Kitt said, "The Government expects to publish 16 bills this session among which are the Road Traffic and Health Bills as well as the Defamation Bill, the Privacy Bill and the Childcare (Amendment) Bill. The diversity of proposed legislation underlines this Government's commitment to tackling key issues across all areas of our society."
In addition, there are currently 24 pieces of legislation before the Oireachtas. Among this body of legislation are the Health (Nursing Homes) (Amendment) Bill 2006, the Health (Repayment Scheme) Bill 2006, the Building Control Bill 2005, the Parental Leave (Amendment) Bill 2004 and the Employment Permits Bill 2005
Minister Kitt concluded, "The extensive Programme between now and the Summer recess sees the Government maintaining an impressive pace of legislative reform that began in 2002. Since taking office we have published 147 bills and enacted 148 separate pieces of vital legislation. This intensive pace of legislative reform ensures that the Government is well on target to deliver on its commitments in the Agreed Programme for Government"
