Sandyford Depot
The works in the Sandyford Depot are now complete and the depot is ready to hand over to the Luas operator for the arrival of the new tram fleet.
Sandyford Stop
Significant progress was made on the construction of the eastern end of the city bound platform. Currently passengers are required to board the city bound trams at the western end of the platform only. On completion of the platform extension, an additional track will be added turning the city bound platform into an island platform similar to Harcourt Stop on the Green Line.
Preparatory works in the Sandyford Park and Ride and across the entrance to Sandyford Depot are continuing. The installation of ducting, drainage and Overhead Contact System (OCS) pole bases are nearing completion in this section.
Blackthorne Avenue - Burton Hall Road Junction
The installation of tarmac continued during March and the impact on traffic using the roads has been minimised through extensive planning of the temporary traffic management arrangements. Ballasted track has now been installed along Blackthorne Avenue between the depot entrance and the Burton Hall Road junction.
The deterrent paving is being installed at the junction of Blackthorn Avenue and Burton Hall Road. This red raised paving is designed to notify that pedestrian traffic is prohibited. All road users are asked to respect the traffic management arrangements and signage.
Brewery Road Bridge to Central Park
The track laying on Brewery Road Bridge is nearing completion. Works on the overhead contact system will commence in April. Track laying will start in the vicinity of the Vodafone podium during the month. The installation of ducting and drainage is ongoing in the Central Park Area.
New Luas Bridge over M50 at Junction 14 (Leopardstown Bridge)
The works are ongoing on the Leopardstown Bridge with the first sections of the track installed last during March 2009.
Murphystown Road to Ballyogan Road
The rock breaking for the Glencairn underground substation is ongoing and will continue throughout April. Approximately 3300 tonnes of granite have been excavated to date. The works have also progressed into the green areas in front of Glencairn View.
The works are proceeding as programmed on the Ballyogan Road section with the installation of track drainage near the Ballyogan Wood Estate. Rails will be delivered to this area shortly in preparation for track installation.
To facilitate the track installation across the estate entrances, it will be necessary to temporarily close the entrance to Ballyogan Avenue East. This will take place early April and will continue for approximately 8 weeks. Alternative access arrangements have been agreed with the local authorities and public transport providers. Members of the public are asked to use the access point adjacent to the Leopardstown Shopping Centre- Ballyogan Avenue West. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Carrickmines to Laughanstown
The ducting and formation works are sufficiently advanced to enable the track laying and stop platform construction to commence in this area.
Laughanstown to Cherrywood
Approximately 300m of embedded track was installed in March in this section and works are progressing well on the construction of the substation at Cherrywood.
