Meadowbrook Sports Campus The new Meadowbrook Sports Complex came a step closer to reality this week when councillors voted to approve the project at a meeting of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council. I have been closely involved with this project since the beginning and am delighted that work can commence shortly on construction. The Council received over 200 submissions from local people following a detailed process of public consultation.

New Sports Facilities The new Sports Complex at Meadowbrook will provide a new swimming pool (including toddler pool), leisure centre and outdoor recreational facilities. In addition, the following is being provided:

  • Parking Provision for 120 cars and two coaches
  • 8 Dedicated disabled spaces
  • Provision of parking for motorcycles and mopeds
  • Improved designated pedestrian routes

No Through Traffic

  • The new complex will incorporate a flexible layout, meaning full access for all users from Acorn Road, Ludford and Broadford, but with NO through-traffic permitted.
  • New entry barriers will be erected at the entrance from Ludford and at the entrance from Meadowbrook. These barriers will be centrally controlled and ticket-operated preventing through access from entry point to another

It is the Council’s intention to provide road access from Broadford Road. This cannot be done without Public Consultation under Part 8 of the Planning Act and I will keep you informed of developments in this regard as a matter of course. The Council has agreed to retain a section of the open space outside the church which has been used as a community gathering point over the years. Additional landscaping will be provided.

€10 million Investment This project represents an investment of €10 million in amenities for this community and I warmly welcome this latest development. It will greatly benefit the local community and local school children.

Glenamuck Road – Weight Restriction - Following requests to me from local residents for consideration to be given by the Council for weight restrictions on the Glenamuck Road the Council’s Traffic Engineer has examined this matter, at my request and it has been agreed that a 3 Tonne limit will be put in place on Glenamuck Road from its junction with Enniskerry Road to the Glenamuck Road south roundabout.

Stepaside Community Centre - The Council is currently in discussions with the owner of the site behind the former Mountainview House, Public House. The site for the proposed community centre and children’s play area is approximately 3/4 acres in extent. It is hoped to conclude these negotiations within the next two months and thereafter proceed to the planning process for the new Community Centre. I will keep you updated on developments
